Hall of the Mountain King

My family and I were staying at Yosemite Lodge. It was a hot summer afternoon and a bear wondered out of the dense woods into a clearing in front our room. It was a rare treat seeing this majestic Black Bear romping about the grass, under a small group of trees. Unfortunately the bear was having a stressful moment.

The bear bellowed out a loud guttural groan as he defecated; this was the end result of his eating a granola bar, complete with the foil wrapper! Foolishly, I was looking through the viewfinder of my camera as the bear emerged for this small group of tress. Not realizing how close he was as he headed in my direction. When I clicked the camera shutter and peeked out, I had to sidestep quickly out of the bear’s path. It was a little unnerving to be within such close proximity of the bear. Nevertheless, I got a very good picture, which inspired me to create the Hall of the Mountain King.

I used two separate photos to make basic layout. The background image is from a photo I took at the Wawona Sequoia Grove.Combining dapples of light to the clinging green moss on the Sequoia trees and the golden highlights upon the mighty bear, I loved adding these numerous “sweet-spots” to the Hall of the Mountain Kin.
